"A ghost in the town of Macroom,

One night found a ghoul in his room.

They argued all night,

St Marks

The Piazza San Marco, or St. Mark's Square, is undoubtedly the most popular tourist destination in Venice. And it is beautiful!!! The building itself, located due north of the Piazza della Signoria, was begun by the sculptor Arnolfo di Cambio in 1296. The best time to visit is in october / November as it is a lot cooler at this time of year with the added benefits of a lot less visitors enabling a more enjoyable and memorable visit

Rialto Bridge

The Ponte di Rialto is the true heart of Venice. The structure was built in just three years, as a permanent replacement for the boat bridge and 3 wooden bridges that had spanned the Grand Canal at various times since the 12th Century. The Rialto Bridge's 24-foot arch was designed to allow passage of galleys, and the massive structure was built on some 12,000 wooden pilings that still support the bridge more than 400 years later. The bridge has three walkways: two along the outer balustrades, and a wider central walkway leading between two rows of small shops that sell jewelry, linens, Murano glass, and other items for the tourist trade.

Murano

Murano was a commercial port as far back as the 7th Century, and by the 10th Century it had grown into a prosperous trading center with its own coins, police force, and commercial aristocracy. Then, in 1291, the Venetian Republic ordered glassmakers to transfer their foundries to Murano because the glassworks represented a fire hazard in Venice, whose buildings were mostly wooden at the time.
It wasn't long until Murano's glassmakers were the leading citizens on the island. Artisans were granted the right to wear swords and enjoyed immunity from prosecution by the notoriously high-handed Venetian state. By the late 14th Century, the daughters of glassmakers were allowed to marry into Venice's elite families.

Classic Venice

Venice one of the most imaginative cities one can visit, and has been so since centuries. Its special appeal obviously lies in its unique location in the lagoon and on the water, and its many remarkable buildings. The most typical aspect of Venice, is its canals. Whilst the Canal Grande is the best known and the biggest canal, there are many more smaller canals which deserve a visit. It is relatively easy to explore them
